June 2002 - an update.
Those of you who
have already read the Customer Clips page will be amused to see that
we have been able to add a picture of Marje & Janice. We
finally got them to stand still for a minute during the City of
Roses Quilting Party. We have also updated the Newsletter page
with pictures and news from the
CRQP.
In light of our special 'two for
one' summer class schedule, our first feature
is, appropriately, a 'two for one': mother/daughter
quilters Marje Rhine and
Janice Matsen. You'll notice that
instead of a picture of Marje and Janice together, there is a sample
of Marje's design work. When I asked Marje if she had a
picture of the two of them that we could include, she laughed and
said, "Probably from when I was four years old!" They're both
too busy to sit down long enough to have their picture taken!
Anyway, on to their story...
A few years ago, Marje Rhine left her secure
job at Nike to follow her dream. She is a very talented gal
whose dream was to design and market patterns for the quilter,
patterns that were cute, practical and quick. She has designed
many patterns that fill that bill. You will find them for sale
at the Shop and here on my website. If you've never seen the
result of Marje's creativity, do browse in the online store - you'll
see what I mean.
Marje is very generous with her time, energy and
talent. You may find her behind the counter at Scarborough
Flair once in a while. As a sole proprietor, one big problem
is finding someone who can fill your shoes and provide the
professional, experienced assistance that your customers
expect. Marje is very well suited to the task and has
generously agreed to work many times when I have needed help.
She also teaches some classes at the Shop and students tell me that
she makes them feel so comfortable in class.
Her mother is Janice Matsen. She
is retired, but you would hardly know it because she is so
busy! She helps out two days a week in the classroom at her
local elementary school. You might even find her working at the Shop
occasionally, too!
Both gals belong to a quilt group. Together they
have made and quilted an "Opportunity Quilt" every year for the last
several years, then donated it to my annual Autumn Show & Tell
event to help raise funds for Snow-Cap, a local food agency that
helps those in temporary need without the benefit of federal or
state funds.
My hat is off to these two gals, for their energy,
creativity, generosity, and talent. Congratulate them when you
see them.
